Archives Information

 

An archive is simply a place in which public records or historical documents are preserved.  Below are links to various archives which house information which may be useful in locating and documenting your Henry County ancestors.

contains miscellaneous transcribed data regarding Henry County


Illinois Regional Archives Depository
IRAD houses records from local governments including counties, townships, municipalities and school districts.
Miscellaneous records have been transferred to the seven regional depositories throughout the state.  Not all counties have transferred all types of records, but there are quite a number of Henry County records available.  Copy prices are minimal but reply time is not particularly quick due to the volume of requests they receive. Illinois State Archives
The Illinois State Archives are mandated by law as the depository of public records of Illinois state and local governmental agencies which possess permanent administrative, legal, or historical research values. Its collections do not include manuscript, newspaper, or other nonofficial sources.  Their website includes a number of free and searchable databases, with information on how to order copies also provided.


National Archives and Records Administration
The National Archives is a network of facilities housing all manner of documents available to the public, including census and military records.  Their website offers a separate section for Genealogical Research

RLDS (Community of Christ) Archives
Now known as the Community of Christ, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the  RLDS had an active community in Henry County, and also had an effect on migration from Henry Co. to Iowa.
If your ancestors had an RLDS tie, you will want to check with their archives.   This link offers guidelines on accessing their records and research fees, etc.
