LITTLE GIRL IS DEAD Ada Edith Lamb, Ill Since June, Passes Away Early this Morning Sadness entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Lamb, living north of the city this morning, when their fifteen year old daughter Ada passed away. She had been ill since school let out last June, and on the 18th of September she was forced to take to her bed and has been confined to bed ever since. Death came as a relief from suffering. Born Near Kewanee Ada Edith Lamb was born March 2, 1900, on a farm near the State Road. She attended the Huntsville School until this year, and was also a devoted Christian. She has lived with her parents north of the city the last eight years. To mourn her death there survive in the immediate family her parents and two sisters, Eleanor and Rosanne. Elder German E. Elsworth of Chicago was in Charge. Elder Miller of Chicago sang three beautiful solos. There were many beautiful floral pieces. The pall bearers were chosen from among cousins of Miss Lamb and were Lemuel, Isaac and Pitt Foster, Abraham Palmer, Robert Duff and Mr. Palmer of Rockford. Six little girls acted as honorary pall bearers. Miss Lamb was buried in Pleasant View Cemetery. Among the out of town people who attended the funeral were Mrs. Isaac Palmer and son of Rockford, Mrs. Bert Palmer of Moline and Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Foster of Galesburg. Source: Kewanee Daily Star-Courier, Friday 15 Jan 1915 Contributed by Tracy Johnson GRIEF CAUSED BY PASSING OF ALEXANDER LAMB Prominent Resident Succumbs Today After Ten Weeks' Illness LIVED HERE 45 YEARS After ten weeks of serious illness, due to a paralytic stroke, Alexander Lamb died this morning at his home on the corner of Main and Thirteenth streets. Ten weeks ago Friday Mr. Lamb suffered a stroke of paralysis. This was not the first time that he had been afflicted, as he had a slight stroke about a year ago. Since the second attack of the disease he had been bedfast and had gradually weakened until death came at 5:20 a. m. today. THE THIRD DEATH The news of his decease passed rapidly through the city, bringing grief to many friends and associates. Particularly is the sympathy of all friends of the family extended at the time of this bereavement because the passing of Mr. Lamb is the third death which has occurred in the family circle since Mr. Lamb was stricken. A sister Mrs. Mary A. Pyle and a niece Miss Ada Lamb have died since then. ALL HIS LIFE Alexander Lamb was born in Kewanee, July 22, 1869, and has made his home in Kewanee all of his life. He was the son of the late William and Rosanna Lamb, prominent residents here at the time of his birth. He attended the schools in this city, and after leaving schools secured employment in the coal mines north of the city. At the time of his death he had so advanced himself by merit and industry that he was one of the owners in the North Main Coal Company, having purchased a share of the company about three years ago. As a business man he had commanded the respect of his associates by his honesty and fair dealing. Mr. Lamb married Miss Flena (sic) Boyd in 1890, the ceremony taking place in Kewanee. IN PUBLIC LIFE Mr. Lamb never sought public office for himself, being rather of a retiring nature, but he was honored by election twice as a member of the Board of Education, where he served with credit to himself until the end of his term last spring. He was a member of the Red Man lodge, and for many years took an active interest in the affairs of his order. Mr. Lamb had not affiliated with any church but modeled his life on Christian teachings and in the last weeks of suffering showed patience and fortitude that was touching. THE SURVIVING RELATIVES A large family circle living in Kewanee and vicinity survives to mourn his passing. His beloved wife and two children, Mrs. Eric Nelson and Henry Lamb, constitute the immediate family. There are two grand children, Evelyn and Phyllis Nelson. Two sisters, Mrs. James Marks and Mrs. J. T. Grice, and three brothers, Isaiah Lamb and Joseph Lamb survive. There are many cousins, nieces and nephews, all living here. BURIAL IN KEWANEE Funeral plans have not been made as yet, but it has been decided that Mr. Lamb will be buried here, where he made his home all his life. W. Lamb Clarence William Lamb retired Kewanee schools custodian and a resident of 916 Zang Ave, died at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Iowa City Friday afternoon. He had been hospitalized since October and was 67 years old. Mr. Lamb was born Nov. 9, 1898 in Kewanee, the son of Joseph H. and Elizabeth Martin Lamb. He was married to Alma Hansen Feb. 10, 1922. She died in 1941. He was married to Mamie Pedersen in March of 1942. She survives. Also surviving with the wife are the following children from the first marriage: two sons, William Lamb of Princeton and Clarence Lamb of North Henderson; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Shirley) Claeys of Kewane (sic) and Mrs. Keith (Rosemary) Carter of Galva, as well as two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Frantzen of Princeton and Mrs. Lois Peabody of Cary, Ill; step-mother, Mrs. Dora Lamb of Kewanee; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr. Lamb was a veteran of World War I, serving with Company K, 123 Field Artillery. He was a member of the Last Man's Club, Kewanee Post of American Legion, William Euard Barracks and Zion Lutheran Church. For a number of years he was in the garage business in Princeton and Ohio, Ill. and later served as custodian of Central School here, retiring in 1959. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Earl Carlson will officiate. Interment will be in the Evergreen Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the Cavanaugh and Schueneman Funeral Home Monday evening. Memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Lamb, of Altus, Okla., formerly of Kewanee, will be Wednesday in Altus. Mr. Lamb died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at his home. Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee, is in charge of local arrangements. He retired from the Air Force, where he served for 20 years. He also retired from the City of Altus. He was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Kewanee. END COMES AT CLOSE OF A BRIEF ILLNESS Edward Lamb, aged 25, died last evening at 10:20 o'clock at this home, 706 North Walnut street after a brief illness due to pneumonia. Since he was three years old Mr. Lamb made his home in Kewanee so was well known here. Recently he had been employed as a miner at the shaft of Mat Atkinson and last Friday was taken ill. He was assisted to his home and his condition grew rapidly worse. He suffered from plurisy (sic) which later developed into pneumonia. Born in England. Mr. Lamb was born in Worcestershire, England, December 20th, 1860 and came to America with his parents when an infant, the family settling in Kewanee. He grew to young manhood here and February 14th, 1882, became the husband of A. Hannah Carter. Mr. Lamb followed the occupation of a hod carrier for a number of years. He was a member of the hod carrier's union and at one time held the office of president of the organization. At the time of his death Mr. Lamb was a secretary treasurer of the union. Besides the wife and mother, who resides with her daughter, Mrs. Richard Woodward, Mr. Lamb is survived by the following children, Edward, Daisy McIntyre, Iva and Roy. A son, William, died about eight years ago. The father passed away about twelve years ago. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Mrs. Mary Pyle of New Mexico, Mrs. Sarah Grice, Mrs. Richard Woodward, Mrs. Rose Marks, Isaiah, Alex, and William, all of this city, and Jos. Of Lamoni, Iowa, who is here to attend the funeral. All of the brothers and sisters, with the exception of Mrs. Pyle were at the bedside when death came. Funeral Saturday. The funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Latter Day Saints' church, Rev. Amos Berve being in charge. The remains will be interred in Pleasant View cemetery. He was born in Wombern, Staffordshire, England, August 20, 1839. He was married to Miss Eliza Whitehouse in 1859, in Dudley, England. They both united with the church October 15, 1864, being baptized by John D. Jones. They came to this country in 1862, settling in Kewanee. Ten children were born to this union, eight of whom are still living. About thirteen years ago his wife died, leaving him a widower for three years, when, on May 26, 1884, he was married to Mrs. Martha Wiggins, who survives him. Bro. Lamb will always be remembered as a peaceful and hard working citizen, honest in every respect, a good brother, and by his family as a kind father and loving husband. He leaves a wife, eight children, and thirteen grandchildren to mourn his sudden departure. The funeral was held 15th inst., Bro. John Chisnall officiating. Death terminated a two weeks' illness. Born in Kewanee, Oct 25, 1880, she received her education in the local schools and here married to Joseph Lamb, Feb. 10, 1897. After their marriage, the couple went to Lamoni, Ia., where they lived for about ten years, and then returned to Kewanee. She was a member of the Latter Day Saints church. Surviving besides the husband are four daughters, Mrs. Chris Frantzen of Princeton and Mrs. Florence Hansen and the Misses Lois and Grace Lamb of Kewanee; a son Clarence Lamb of Princeton; a sister, Mrs. James Tucker, living on the Cambridge road, and four brothers, Thomas Martin of Trenton, Mo., and John, George and James Martin of Lamoni. A sister, Mrs. Rose Lyons, preceded her in death. The funeral will be held from the late home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Music was furnished by Mrs. Fern Jones Lamb and Miss Lillie Anderson. The bearers were Henry and Hayden Lamb, John and Louis Atkinson, James Tucker Jr. and Will Jamieson. Her husband is buried at Evergreen with his 2nd wife.] KEWANEE -- Floyd E. Lamb, 81, of 825 N. Walnut St. died at 12:43 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 1992, at Kewanee Care Nursing Home. Born Feb. 10, 1911, at Kewanee to Edwin and Marie Willette Lamb, he married Elaine S. Callewyn on Oct. 6, 1932, at Kewanee. She died Aug. 7, 1992. Two sisters and two brothers also preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons, Gary and William, both of Kewanee; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother- in-law, Augie Callewyn of Kewanee, with whom he made his home. He worked as a molder and a supervisor at Walworth Foundry at Kewanee for 45 years, retiring in 1976. He later worked at Baughman Monument at Kewanee for several years. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Kewanee. He also was a member of the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Kewanee, and the Kewanee Baseball League. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at his church. The Rev. Henry Fritz, O.S.B., will officiate, and burial will be Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kewanee. On his way to work, on the morning of March 16, 1899, he was struck by a fast mail train and instantly killed. He leaves a widow and daughter and many relatives to mourn. Source: Saints Herald, Vol 46:240 Submitted by: Susie Martin-Rott Isaiah Lamb, for nearly sixty years a resident of Kewanee, passed away at his home, 409 East Eighth street, at 5:40 o'clock last evening. He had been afflicted with asthmatic trouble for several years, but his final illness dates from last Tuesday. Bronchial pneumonia was the cause of death. Mr. Lamb was born in Staffordshire, England, Jan. 21. 1863, and at the time of his death he was 59 years, 2 months and 23 days old. He came to this country with his parents when he was but three months old, the family coming directly to Kewanee, where practically all of Mr. Lamb's life was spent. He attended the Kewanee public schools after which he engaged for a time in coal mining. At the time of his illness he was in the employment of the Walsworth Manufacturing Company, having worked for this firm and its predecessors from the days of the Haxton Steam Heater Company. About thirty-five years ago Mr. Lamb was united in marriage with Miss Sarah E. Watts. Three children were born to this union, the eldest, a son, William Thomas Lamb, passing away at the age of three years. The surviving children are Miss Glaydis (sic) M. Lamb, Des Moines, Iowa, and Willard A. Lamb, who is in the 3d Co, Coast Artillery, stationed at Fort Williams, Portland, Maine. Mrs. Lamb passed away in this city in November 1912. November 11, 1914, Mr. Lamb was united in marriage with Mrs. Sallie Moore of Grays, Ky., who survives. No children were born to this union. In addition to the widow and children Mr. Lamb is survived by two sisters, Mrs. J. T. Grice and Mrs. James Marks, and by two brothers, Joseph Hiram Lamb and William Lamb, all of this city. His parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. During his long residence in Kewanee, Mr. Lamb made a great many friends who will regret his passing. He was held in the highest esteem by those who knew him. The funeral service will be held at the residence at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon. Lamb, 81, of 120 Maple Ave., an employe (sic) of the Walworth Co., died suddenly at 9:30 a. m. Wednesday at his home. He went to work as usual and died soon after returning to his home. He was born in Kewanee on Feb. 8, 1874 and spent all of his life here. He was employed for many years in the steel foundry of Walworth Co. In 1910, he was married to Elizabeth Martin, who died in 1928. On Sept. 4, 1930, he was married to Dora Steffey. He is survived by his wife, one son Clarence of Kewanee; two daughters. Mrs. Jessie Frantzen, Winnetka, and Mrs. Lois Peabody of McHenry; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mr. Lamb was the last of his family. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, five sisters and two daughters, Florence and Grace. He was a member of the Church of Jesus of (sic) the Latter-day Saints. The funeral rites will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Seifert and Smith Funeral Home. Elder Edward Jones will officiate. (Tracy Johnson and I are cousins, discovered via this page, and are both working the Lamb line).] FORTY YEARS OF RESIDENCE HERE Mrs. Rosanna Lamb Passes Away at the Home of Her Daughter on Burr St. BORN IN OLD COUNTY IN EARLY THIRTIES Funeral Services to be Held at House and Church Sunday Afternoon Mrs. Rosanna Lamb, who, for over forty years, was a resident of Kewanee, passed away last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Richard Woodward, 717 North Burr street, where she has of late been making her home. The passing of this well-known lady has brought grief to a very large number of relatives as well as to friends who were counted by the score. Of Advanced Age Mrs. Lamb, who was 74 years old had been in poor health for the past five years. Seven weeks ago last Monday she was taken to her bed, seeming to be troubled with her heart. This trouble, combined with old age, hastened death which came peacefully last night at 8:30 o'clock. The end was not unexpected and all the children, except one, who could not be located, as well as two sisters from Iowa, were present when she breathed her last. Born in England Rosanna Whitehouse was born in Wortershire Dubley (sic) county, England Christmas day 1832 and at the time of her death was 74 years, seven months and eight days old. While still a resident of her home town she was united in marriage with Wm. Lamb, the ceremony taking place September 15th in the year 1852. Came here in Sixties In the year 1863 the family started for this country. It was June 3rd, the same year that they arrived in Henry county. The family at once moved to a piece of land north of Kewanee and in later years built the old Lamb residence that still remains on North Main Street in Kewanee. Fourteen Children Born Mr. and Mrs. Lamb were the parents of fourteen children, five of whom died in infancy. A son Edward died last January. There are eight yet to mourn the death, all of whom reside in Kewanee except two. The children are: Mary Ann, now Mrs. Richard Pyle, of New Mexico; Sarah, now Mrs. J.T. Grice; Eliza, now Mrs. Richard Woodward; Alexander Lamb, William Lamb, Rose, now Mrs. James Marsh (sic). The last six are of Kewanee; Joseph H., the youngest, resides at Lamoni, Iowa. Five Brothers Mrs. Lamb has five brothers but it has been several years since they have been heard from, so it is not known by the relatives whether they are all living or not. They were making their homes in western states when last heard from. There are two sisters, Mrs. W. Stanley and Mrs. William Early, both of whom reside at Lamoni, Iowa, and who were here when the end came. Funeral Sunday Many years ago Mrs. Lamb became connected with the Latter Day Saints church and has held membership in that body for a long time. The funeral will be held in the Woodward home on North Burr street and at the Latter Day Saints' church at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Amos Berve will have charge. Mrs. Lamb, being a life long resident of this city enjoyed the acquaintence of a large number of friends who will regret to learn of her passing. Her dath was caused by a cancer. She had not been in good health for about two years and last December underwent an operation which gave her temporary relief until two weeks ago Thursday she was obliged to be confined to her bed on account of her illness. During the last two weeks she had suffered considerably but through it all was brave to the end when she passed away peacefully yesterday. Born in Kewanee. Miss Sarah Esther Watts was born in Kewanee July 4th, 1868. With the exception of a short time spent at Mystic, Iowa before marriage, Mrs. Lamb had made this city her home during her entire life. She was united in marriage with Isaiah Lamb here February 5th, 1887. To their union were born three children, two of whom are left to mourn the death with the father, namely: Miss Gladys and Willard Lamb, living at home. William Lamb passed away in infancy. Mrs. Lamb is survived by four brothers and two sisters. They are Thomas, Bert, and Robert Watts of Mystic, Iowa, John Watts of Brazil, Iowa; Mrs. Chole Chambers of Muskegon, Mich., and Mrs. Clara Jones of this city. Member of Church Mrs. Lamb was a member of the Latter Day Saint's church of this city and was especially well known throughout the congregation. She was also a member of the Mystic Workers Lodge No. 58 of this city. Funeral Monday. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday afternoon. Many people gathered at the church to pay final respects. Oral Sade of Joy, Ill., had charge of the service. Music was furnished by Miss Betha Green, Mrs. John Bergland, Dr. G. M. Burial was at the Pleasant View cemetery. The out-of-town friends and relatives present here to attend the service were Mr. and Mrs. McDonald of Spring Valley, John McDonald of Chicago, Robert, Tom and Bert Watts of Mystic, Iowa, Henry and John Boyd and Mrs. W. William Lamb was born February 12, 1833 at Womber, Worcestershire, England; married Rosehannah (sic) Whitehouse July 18, 1853, at Dudley, England; came to America in the fall of 1862; became a member of the church of Latter Day Saints November 17, 1865, and departed this life March 10, 1895, aged 62 years and 26 days. He leaves a loving wife, nine children, nineteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Correct spelling of wife's name is Rosannah] William Lamb was born February 12, 1833, in Wombern,Worstershire, England and was united in marriage to Miss Roseanah Whitehouse on July 18th, 1853, at Dudley. They came to America, settling at Kewanee in the fall of 1862, and in 1865 Mr. Lamb became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by baptism and confirmation. Mr. Lamb was greatly beloved by those of right precious faith with himself, as a man of honest prinicple and purpose, and it might be truthfully said that all who knew him or had business dealings with him can testify to the nobility of character. True he had his weaknesses but they were few. Mr. Lamb passed quietly away on Sunday, March 10, between 12 and 1 o'clock in his 62nd year, the cause of death being a breaking down from hard work in the mines, which brough on asthma and dropsy. The funeral was held from the church of the Later (sic) Dau Saints on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Elder Chisnell officiating. Saturday at his home, 826 West Prospect st., after an illness of several years. He had been confined to his bed since March of this year. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Seifert and Smith funeral home, President Creed Haymon of the Northern States' Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call tonight at the Seifert and Smith funeral home. Mr. Lamb was born Oct. 1, 1871, in Kewanee and has spent his entire life in this community. He was married to Ester Jone Palmer (sic) on Oct. 7, 1896. He farmed for many years, serving as road commissioner for Kewanee township at one time. Mr. and Mrs. Lamb celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their home in October, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters, three sons, and two daughters. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Elnora, Mrs. Stanley Appleby, Moline; Rosanna, Mrs. Norman Snyder, Melrose Park; and a brother Joseph Lamb, Kewanee. The son of Alec and Selena Boyd Lamb, he was born Feb. 22, 1893, in Kewanee and attended school here. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the First Methodist Church. On March 1, 1924, he married Miss Fern Jones. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Joan) Nelson of Kewanee, a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Lauterback of Los Angeles, Calif., four grandchildren and two nieces. The Rev. Kermit C. Gregory, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated. Mrs. Edna Larson was the organist. A Masonic service was conducted by the Kewanee Masonic lodge. Members of the Berean class of the First Methodist Church attended the service in a group. The bearers were Carl N. Anderson, Glenn Browning, William Browning, Everett Browning, Paul Browning and Earl Browning. Interment was in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Landergren, 85, of 536 Elliott St., died at Americana Nursing Center in Galesburg at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 1973. She was born Feb. 9, 1888 in Kewanee, the daughter of David and Roseann Lamb Jones. She married Martin Landergren June 10, 1910 in Kewanee. Mrs. Landergren was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Marjorie) Johnson and Mrs. Roy (Lois) Waldorf, both of Kewanee; two sons, Donald of Kewanee and Kenneth of Blue Diamond, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Ethel Hendriks of Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son and a grandson. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Pleasant View Cemetery with Elder George Cooper officiating. Source: Kewanee Star-Courier, Oct. 23, 1973 Submitted by: Tracy Johnson Death Calls Thomas Lyle At 74 Years Lifelong Resident Summoned At Home, 609 Florence Street Thomas Lyle, 74, lifelong resident of this vicinity, died Thursday evening at 5 o'clock at the home, 609 Florence street. He had been in failing health for the past year. Born Nov. 4, 1863, on a farm, three miles east of Kewanee, the son of William and Margaret Lyle, the decedent resided on the farm until thirty years ago when he came to Kewanee. He engaged in teamster work. March 25, 1900, occurred his marriage to Hilda Hagg who died in 1930. Five children were born, a son Emeritt, who died in 1919, and four who survive, Clara, Mrs. Clarence Egbert, Margaret Lyle and Everett and Pearl Lyle, all of Kewanee. Mr. Lyle also leaves two grandchildren, Hayden and Margaret Egbert, three sisters, Margaret, Mrs. Gus Oliver, Kewanee; Agnes, Mrs. H. Martin, Moline, and Lucy, Mrs. George Stabler, Lincoln, Neb., and other relatives. Four brothers and two sisters, John, George, William, James and Margaret Lyle, and Mrs. Mary Hilton, preceded him in death. Mr. Lyle was a member of Odd Fellow lodge for forty-nine years and was a member of the encampment. He was affiliated with Modern Woodmen lodge. Friends may call at the home tonight. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 in the Congregational church. Lyons were held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon in the undertaking parlors of Erickson & McHugh. The Rev. Chas. F. Fisher, pastor of First Congregational Church was in charge. Not long after the death of his son Lawrence, his wife Rose petitioned the Courts in Henry County to declare him insane, and such was done.] LAWRENCE LYONS PASSES AWAY AT CAMP SATURDAY Was Taken Sick with Spanish Influenza Which Developed Into Pneumonia BROUGHT HERE TODAY Another local boy has given his life for his country. Lawrence Lyons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lyons of Wethersfield passed away at Camp Grant Saturday evening about 7 o'clock after a two weeks' illness. His death was caused from an attack of Spanish Influenza which developed into pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. Lyons have been at Camp Grant for the past several days with their son and they with the remains arrived in Kewanee on the 12:56 train. Left Few Weeks Ago. Lawrence was very well known in Kewanee and Wethersfield having lived in this community all of his life. He had been at camp just five weeks and took sick two weeks ago yesterday. He was placed in Class 5 by the examining board but he went as a volunteer. He was born in Kewanee August 9, 1896. He attended the schools of this city, and before going into the service was engaged in the paperhanging and painting business. He was 22 years of age. He was married in June 1916 to Miss Anna Glass of Havana, Ill., the ceremony being performed in that city. To them was born a daughter Carmen, who with the mother survives the loss of husband and father. Other surviving relatives include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred E. Lyons, a brother Harry Lyons, both grandmothers, Mrs. Louise Lyons and Mrs. Martha Martin, all of Kewanee. There are also five aunts, six uncles and other relatives. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home, corner of West and McClure streets. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Lawrence Lyons was laid to rest yesterday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the home, West and McClure streets at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of the Rev. T.E. Nugent, pastor of the First Congregational church. There were many beautiful flowers. Following the service, the procession formed in this order: Color-guard of army and navy men in the service with Ralph Walters as color-bearer; Spanish-War veterans; G.A.R.; W.R.C.; committee of mothers and wives of those in the service; representatives of the Neighborhood Committee, Council of Defense; guard of honor; relatives and friends. The autos were furnished by the Neighborhood Committee, arrangements having been made by Fred Terry. The bearers were selected from the Spanish-War veterans and included George Haywood, Bert Shadley, Frank Tietz, D.J. Boggs, B.O. Wiley and Harold Green. Burial was in Pleasant View cemetery. At the grave after the body had been committed to its last resting place by Rev. Mr. Nugent, the Spanish-War veterans conducted the burial service, closing with three volleys of Musketry, followed by "Taps" being sounded by Harold Green. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lyons Source: Kewanee Star Courier, 23 Oct 1918 Contributed by Susie Martin-Rott Mrs. Rose Lyons Dies In Iowa After Illness Kewanee residents were greatly shocked today to learn of the death of Mrs. Rose Lyons, who passed away at her home in Lamoni, Iowa. Mrs. Lyons was well known in Kewanee and had many friends here. She was the wife of the late Fred Lyons, who passed away some time ago. Surviving is one son, Harry, who resides in Kansas City. Another son, Lawrence Lyons lost his life in the World war. Lawrence's little daughter, Carmen, lived with Mrs. Lyons until the time of her death. Two sisters and four brothers also survive as follows: Mrs. James Tucker, and Mrs. Jos. Lamb of Kewanee; James, Thomas, John and George Martin of Lamoni, Iowa. The immediate cause of death has not been learned but friends of Mrs. Lyons stated that she suffered from heart trouble for some time and was known to be in ill health. The funeral services will be held in Lamoni, tomorrow. Mrs. James Tucker left today to attend the service.
