Lookups

Criteria for Lookup Requests

  • Please specify by title which resource you are requesting a lookup in.
  • Restrict your request to one or two surnames at a time, such as a maiden or married name.
  • Don't ask for "all the Jones". Common surnames require that you have a first name for a lookup.
  • Provide enough information for the volunteers to work with.
  • For Civil War Rosters, please see special lookup criteria listed with that category.
  • Please be patient-it may take a while for the volunteers to get to your request. If you do not receive a reply after thirty days, please email this site, or if a second volunteer is listed for the same book, try them.
  • If you have a large number of people to look up in one book, we would prefer that you invest in your own copy (if available for current sale). We do not wish to impose on either the lookup volunteers or the groups who count on book sales for their operating revenue.
  • We don't own personal copiers...self explanitory. If a volunteer wishes to provide copies, they may do so at their own descretion as long as it does not violate copyright law.
  • Volunteers have been instructed not to violate current copyright laws...we'd rather you did not ask them to do so.

Henry County Books Available for Purchase

The Henry County Genealogical Society offers genealogical reference books for sale at very reasonable prices. New books are periodically being added to their listings.

The HCGS has been EXTREMELY generous in allowing us to do lookups from their publications, but we cannot abuse that privledge by doing lookup after lookup in the same book for the same researcher.

If you find yourself asking for more than one or two names from a single HCGS publication, we would ask that you purchase the book. Book sales and membership dues are how the society finances continued publications. If you are here, you should join the Henry County Genealogical Society. Besides getting 4 great Quarterly "Genie" Publications a year, your dues will help pay for more books to be compiled!!!

And don't forget, once you have those books, volunteer to help someone else with their research.

MILITARY ROSTERS-CIVIL WAR
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR LOOKUPS OF CIVIL WAR RECORDS: While some rosters are in alphabetical order, some are not. Please limit requests to one name at a time. If you know what town the person was from, or what unit you think they might have been in, please mention it. Please wait until your query has been answered before submitting a subsequent request. Multiple requests in a single mailing will be ignored. All general lookup criteria also apply.

Special thanks to Linda Lang of the ILGenWeb Project for helping us obtain the rosters!
